Local Library

National Library of West Kalimantan Province (formerly named Local Library)in Jl. Sutan no.17 was established since 1980 in accordance with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture No.: 0221a/o/1980 September 2, 1980. However, new operations a year later, September 7, 1981 in December 1984 Arts Building Regional Office of the Ministry of Education and Culture of West Kalimantan Province exchange process occurs with the Regional Government of Pontianak, so that the location of West Kalimantan Provincial Library was also moved to new locations, the use of School Building Teacher Education (SPG), the country on the Road Economics No. 71 Pontianak. Not until one year in a building that SPG, because officially the construction of Library Building Area, on 29 April 1985 declared finished. On 17 May 1985, is a very historic day for the West Kalimantan Provincial Library, because that's when a pretty magnificent building began to be occupied (May 17, also coincides with the anniversary of the National Library).

In accordance with the demands and needs of society that increasingly requires a library service, in 1989 out of the Republic of Indonesia Presidential Decree No. 11 of 1989 on the National Library. Under the ruling, the National Library is a non-departmental government institution which is located under and responsible directly to the President.

In the case of carrying out its duties and functions in the area, the National Library has the units of organization called the Local Library which is located in each provincial capital, including the Local Library which is located in West Kalimantan provincial capital of West Kalimantan - Pontianak.
Since out of Presidential Decree No. 11 of 1989, it officially became the name Local Library.
Approximately eight years later - 1997 - The National Library has a significant structural change, of course coupled with the duties and responsibilities of an increasingly severe in terms of fostering and developing the library in the territory of this republic. The changes are determined by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia No. 50 of 1997 on the National Library of Indonesia.
Now the National Library of West Kalimantan province has stepped into the age-19, an age much younger than his brothers in other provinces. However, although hopefully the young in age but mature in acting.
